Social Worker
My name is Monica Shepherd, and I am the Bridging the Gap Social Worker here at Brighter Choice Community School, serving students in grades 3K through 5th grade.
I am dedicated to supporting our students and families by providing resources, counseling, and social-emotional support to help every child thrive academically and personally.
Through my role, I work closely with students, teachers, and families to address challenges such as attendance, emotional well-being, and family needs. Some of the services I provide include:
- Social-emotional learning support through individual and small group counseling
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution
- Family outreach and community resource connections
- Workshops for students and parents on topics such as coping skills, self-care, and positive peer relationships
- Support for students in temporary housing (STH) to ensure access to food, transportation, and school supplies
