THE ASTER INITIATIVE

The Aster Initiative program believes in progressive education. In our endeavor to support the development and education of the whole child, we understand that there are many ways to cater to the individuality of every student. Therefore, we incorporate multiple philosophies into our program such as Bank Street, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia. The Aster Initiative program is designed for students 3K through 5th grade offering a multitude of extracurricular activities and ultimately being an extension of the classroom. Students continue to grow, learn, and have fun while attending our program.

Our program is offered to elementary school students up to the 5th grade.

It is generally organized with learning objectives and enrichment programming in mind. The curriculum is used as a guide to expand and extend student’s learning, independence skills, academic skills, and social interactions, which are all primary components of the curriculum. These skills are honed through hands-on experiences in the following areas including but not limited to:

  • Arts & Crafts
  • Dance
  • Yoga
  • Music
  • Spanish
  • Capoeira
  • Homework Assistance
  • Tutoring Services
  • Non-competitive sports

With a combination of physical education, arts education, character education, and academic enhancement, we hope to instill self-esteem, self-discipline, and the values of respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship into each and every participant in our program.

It is our goal to give our participants the opportunity to explore their creativity and themselves through fun, stimulating activities and become confident, positive members of our community.

At Trail Blazers camps, we believe that the skills and values that matter most are best developed through outdoor experiences, and we believe that being in small groups and being deeply involved in your own experience is the best way to learn and grow. Our NYC-based programs take young people into parks, playgrounds, and community gardens, teaching them that the environment is everywhere and we all live under one sky.

We focus on the Trail Blazers’ four overarching values, showing care and respect for ourselves, showing care and respect for others, showing care and respect for our community, and showing care and respect for our environment!
